Happy Birthday Aaron!!

Today for Aaron’s birthday we went back to the posh Njiro complex for a nice lunch and then, a real treat- going to the CINEMA!!

We had some delicious food and bought Aaron a slice of cake, singing “Happy Birthday” so the whole patio could hear. 🙂

As I said above, this complex has the only movie theatre we’ve seen since being here- a 2-theatre complex, each holding maybe 30 people. It’s pretty small, but it was such a taste of home that none of us could resist buying tickets. The girls wanted to see “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” –which just opened here- but try as we might, we could not convince he boys to come with us. They went to see the new Spiderman movie instead. How excited were we for fresh popcorn, I cannot even begin to explain. It was honestly like none of us had ever been to the movies before! They gave you the choice of sweet freshly made caramel corn or normal salted popcorn, in a good size individual portion for only 3500 Tsh (or about $2). Apparently, (and thankfully!) exorbitant concession prices haven’t caught on here yet.

We all enjoyed seeing the movie, but honestly, it left me missing home more than before. I’ve gotten fairly used to the way of life here but seeing images of home on the screen made me miss things I hadn’t even thought about- even simple things like being able to safely walk through a park. Overall though, I’m incredibly grateful to be here and absolutely loving the adventure. But, I won’t say no to coming home when the time comes. 🙂

Much love to everyone,

Alina
